Did you know . . .
that the Loggerodeo featured a Log Drive down the Skagit River for about 40 years? In 1948, a log painted red, white, and blue was launched down the Skagit from the Marble Mount Bridge to the Clear Lake Bridge on Highway 9. People bought $1 tickets to bet on the time it would take the log to make the trip. The Museum received two logs after the last drive in 1995. One of them is featured in an exhibit on the exterior of the Museum this month. Loggerodeo queen candidates sold tickets to win the queen’s crown or later to win a place in the finals. The timed drive started the moment the log entered the river accompanied by a guide in a boat, who kept official times at various points. For years, the Wildcat Steelhead Club timed the end of the trip and relayed the winning time to Sedro-Woolley. Chainsaw carvings are a distinctive of Sedro-Woolley. Make sure you get a photo with Sasquatch at the museum entrance.
